英語の数詞・数の表現
分数
分子は基数、分母は序数を使う。(仮分数のときは例外)
分子が1のとき
- 分子は基数、分母は序数の単数形
| 1/2 | one half ※one secondとは言わない。慣習的な理由。 |
| 1/3 | one third |
| 1/4 | one fourth one quarter |
| 1/5 | one fifth |
| 1/6 | one sixth |
| 1/7 | one seventh |
| 1/8 | one eighth |
| 1/9 | one ninth |
| 1/10 | one tenth |
| 1/20 | one twentieth |
| 1/100 | one hundredth |
- 分子「one」の代わりに「a」も使える。one half は a half
分子が1以上(複数)のとき
- 分子は基数、分母は序数の複数形
序数に複数形の「ｓ」が付くのが特徴

| 10/100 | ten hundredths |
約分したもの (帯分数)
- and を間に使う。
| 2 1/2 | two and one half |
| 3 2/5 | three and two fifths |
| 25 3/7 | twenty-five and three sevenths |
| 55 12/15 | fifty-five and twelve fifteenths |
分子が分母と同じか、分母より大きいとき (仮分数)
- 分母も分子も基数を使う。
- over または by を使って表現する。

| 20/3 | twenty over three twenty by three |
| 45/7 | forty-five over seven forty-five by seven |
大きな数の分数で使われるときもある。
| 125/222 | one hundred twenty-five over two hundred twenty-two |
